Tips for best results
- 1The sprint goal is the most important thing in this document. If the team can't recite the sprint goal on Day 3, it's not clear enough.
- 2Always include a 15–20% capacity buffer. Teams that plan to 100% capacity every sprint burn out and consistently disappoint — planning to 80–85% delivers more reliably.
- 3The 'Explicitly Not This Sprint' section prevents the 'while you're in there' requests that creep in mid-sprint. Reference it when someone asks for additions.
- 4Set a mid-sprint trigger: if the highest-risk story isn't 50% done by the midpoint, you need to make a scope decision — don't wait until the last day.
