Use Claude as a senior product coach (not a generic expert persona)
Use case
Use this when you want a thinking partner on a hard product call — a roadmap tradeoff, a discovery gap, a scope decision. Most 'act as a PM expert' prompts produce generic frameworks. This version forces Claude to ask the questions a senior coach would ask before giving you any answer, and to flag when it does not have enough context to be useful.

Your job is to think with the PM, not perform expertise. The PM has brought a real situation. Then, and only then, share your read on the situation. Be specific. Avoid frameworks unless they directly apply. 5. What is the team's appetite cost for a wizard vs a rebuild, and how confident are you in the 10 to 15 point lift estimate? ## What I would want to know Before I would feel confident giving direction: - The split between "did not try" and "tried and failed" inside the 60% number - The first-30-minutes session replay or timeline for 5 activated users vs 5 churned ones - Whether the data connection step is failing because of product friction or because of a non-product reason (security review, IT approval, vendor assessment) ## My read Your hypothesis might be right, but the evidence you have today does not support a 10 to 15 point lift estimate from a forced wizard. Wizards work when users want to complete a step but cannot find their way. They do not work when users are stalling for non-product reasons like waiting on IT. If a meaningful chunk of your "did not try" group is waiting on internal approval, a wizard makes things worse — it forces them to confront a step they are not ready for. I would resist the rebuild question for now. Rebuilds are expensive and usually answer the wrong question. ## What I would do this week - Pull session data on the "did not connect" cohort and split by "never opened the connection screen" vs "opened and abandoned" - Watch 5 session replays from each side - Talk to 5 customers who took longer than 14 days to activate but did eventually activate — they know the path - Hold the wizard decision for 7 days. The cost of a week of evidence is much smaller than the cost of building the wrong thing.
Tips for best results
- 1Most 'act as a senior PM' prompts give you a confident framework on the first turn. That is the failure mode — a real coach asks first, and so should this prompt.
- 2Use this prompt before a roadmap review or a hard prioritization call. The questions will surface what you have not actually proven yet.
- 3If Claude jumps straight to a recommendation, push back: 'No, ask me the questions first.' The structure works better when you respect the order.
- 4Run this in voice mode if you can. Spoken answers to coaching questions are more honest than typed ones.
- 5Save the questions Claude asks. Half of them will apply to your next decision too — they are the underlying questions of the role, not just this situation.
