Tips for best results
- 1Have each evaluator score independently before comparing notes — group scoring produces conformity bias where everyone converges on the first person's opinion.
- 2Weight the criteria before you score — not after. Post-hoc weighting to make your preferred vendor win is a common and costly mistake.
- 3Always call references, and call ones the vendor didn't provide. Ask the vendor for 3 references, then search LinkedIn for additional customers and call them cold.
- 4The '3-year total cost' criterion catches vendors with low Year 1 pricing and steep renewal increases. Ask specifically: 'What was your price increase at last renewal?'
