Use case
Use this before a partner meeting, an investor update, or a diligence cycle when you want the sharpest version of the questions you will face. Most 'review my pitch' prompts produce supportive feedback. This version puts Claude in the seat of a VC who has heard 200 pitches this year and is looking for reasons not to invest.

A partner would say "interesting, but let us see if the moat is real and the TAM is bottom-up defensible." ## TAM pressure test $80B is a top-down compliance software figure that includes everything from GRC platforms to KYC vendors to audit software. The bottom-up TAM that matters for Vantage is mid-market financial services compliance automation, which is closer to $2B to $4B addressable today. Of that, the buyer is typically a Chief Compliance Officer or Head of Compliance Ops, and the median deal size for tools in this category is $40K to $150K ARR. In 24 months: - Foundation models will close most of the model-quality gap - The 18-month lead is data, and data is replicable when competitors fund it - Real moats in compliance are typically: deep regulator relationships, certification, network effects from customer data sharing, deep workflow embedding None of those are in the pitch. The defensibility story will not hold up in a partner meeting unless you can name a workflow lock-in or a regulatory relationship that is hard to replicate. ## Founder-market fit pressure test Two strong technical founders, no compliance domain depth on the cap table. In compliance software, the buyer is conservative and trusts vendors who speak their language. The product can be world-class and still struggle to close mid-market financial services CCOs without a compliance leader on the team. The biggest risk is not engineering — it is the credibility gap with the buyer. Question: who is the head of compliance or the senior advisor on the team, and is that person bookable for diligence reference calls? ## Capital efficiency pressure test $6M raised, $4.2M ARR, ARR per dollar raised approximately 0.7. That is acceptable but not strong for a Series A. Top-quartile companies at this stage are 1.0 to 1.5. Burn at $400K monthly with 14 months runway is reasonable, but the use of funds (15 sales hires plus a vertical expansion plus 5 ML engineers) implies you will deploy faster than the market can absorb. A partner will ask: what is the payback on a sales hire today, and how does that change at 25 reps? ## 7 questions for the partner meeting 1. What is the bottom-up TAM in mid-market financial services compliance, and what is your share of voice in that segment today? 2. Of the $4.2M ARR, what percent is in your top 5 customers, and what is the logo concentration risk? 3. What does retention look like at the 12-month mark for your earliest cohort? Have any churned, and why? 4. The "18-month head start" — what specifically takes a competitor 18 months to replicate, and how do you defend it once foundation models close the model gap? 5. Why is there no compliance domain leader on the team, and what is the hiring plan to close that gap? 6. What is the payback period on a sales hire at current rep productivity, and what is the assumption for the 15 new hires? 7. Insurance vertical — is this a real lateral or a "we will figure it out" expansion? What evidence supports the buyer being similar enough? ## What would not survive diligence - The $80B TAM number — will be replaced with a $2B to $4B bottom-up figure in any partner memo - "Proprietary models" framed as a moat — needs to be reframed as a workflow or data network moat - The use of funds — the simultaneous sales scale plus vertical expansion plus ML investment will read as scattered to a careful partner - The compliance credibility gap on the team — will come up in every reference call and needs an answer in the deck, not just in the conversation
Tips for best results
- 1Most pitch review prompts give you supportive feedback. The actual room you are pitching into is not supportive — this prompt mirrors that room.
- 2Run this 2 weeks before the partner meeting, not 2 days before. Half of the answers require new data you do not yet have.
- 3Save the 7 questions and walk into the meeting with answers to all of them. The partners who ask different questions are signal that something is missing in the framing.
- 4Use this with your honest numbers, not your pitch numbers. The output is only useful if the input is what is true.
- 5If Claude says a part of the story will not survive diligence, do not argue. Go strengthen that part. The cheapest place to take a hit is in this prompt.
